I am so thrilled to introduce you to her new steward, Samantha! Sam has a creative background that I know will bring new, fresh, and exciting beauty to the Yugen offerings in the coming years. I feel so proud to be handing this off, and am looking forward to seeing what the next chapter will look like! But don't worry - Sam is a lover of the cosmos as much as the rest of us, so the themes of our work that you know and love won't be changing anytime soon. I will be around for the next several weeks helping her with the transition, and then it's ta ta for me. 💖
It has been the honor of my life to create and nurture this business. Yugen started as a scrappy side hustle in my early twenties, in the corner of a rented back room of a friend's house, making Polaroid jewelry out of shrink plastic and selling old prints from my days in the darkroom. I never could have imagined that it could turn into the beautiful, thriving, star studded thing it is now. I have always believed that the tension between art and science is where the answers lie - we need both to help find our humanity in things we don't always understand. It was an immeasurable pleasure to be an artist trying to grapple with the immensity and the mystery of our universe, and to create wearable poems that bring us all closer in connection with our place among the stars. In our 17 years together, Yugen gave me relationships and opportunities I could never dream of. It pushed me in ways I'd never been challenged. It changed me on a molecular level. I am so grateful for all of this time I got to stand at the helm, and am also excited that I now get to pass it off to Samantha and let my next chapter unfold.
